Overview of the role
Operating as a key player within the community team, the Community Action Manager will collaborate with our stakeholder community to innovate, experiment, test and research solutions for events to deliver low carbon, circular and regenerative practices that can be implemented at scale.
You’ll be a central part of the team and the face of isla’s action initiatives with our stakeholders, at the heart of shaping sustainability approaches influencing the industry’s direction, and interacting with an engaged community to drive change. You will report to our Community Director.
Key accountabilities
- Identify opportunities for innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration across the membership to establish action initiatives.
- Shape and implement isla’s strategy for action initiatives (Action Groups (AGs), Steering Groups (SGs), Industry Roundtables, etc.)
- Contribute to and advance industry progress through the publication and dissemination of insights, outcomes and learnings from initiatives using these insights to influence industry standards and position isla as a thought leader in environmental sustainability.
- Identify partnership opportunities which support and enhance successful outcomes for action initiative, build collaborative, reciprocal and valuable relationships that improve environmental outcomes for events.
- Support with the delivery of specific isla services to enhance your knowledge and understanding of industry challenges which could be explored or resolved through action initiatives.
Experience
We’re looking for an individual who can blend strategic thinking with implementation capabilities.

We encourage you to apply for this role if you have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- 3+ years working in a management role within a sustainability setting
- A masters in environment, sustainability, intersectional environmentalism and or experience working at a management level or above
- Systems thinking and change management / implementation experience
- At least five years of experience working in the event sector, with a demonstrable passion for environmental sustainability and manager level experience.
- Technical knowledge of sustainability (e.g. carbon, biodiversity) and strong experience of programme design and / or stakeholder engagement within a corporate setting.

Salary: £37,500 – £45,000 pa depending on experience
Position: Full time (37.5h pw)
Start Date: January 2024
Probation: Four months
Holiday: 33 flexible days (inclusive of flexi-bank holidays) and 4 fixed days
Pension: 3% contributions
Location: We would prefer this role to be delivered in-person / hybrid (London) but will consider remote for the right candidate. However, you will need to be willing and able to travel to London or other UK destinations to hold in-person stakeholder engagements, attend events and collaborate with the team at least once a quarter.
