Q+A with James Simpkins and Paul Godwin of 2Heads

Collaboration is no doubt the desired way of working and is at the heart of what agencies do every day. There has been no better time to pull together, sharing knowledge, logging learnings, celebrating success and agreeing priorities. Together we can continue to develop long term sustainable plans to protect the future of our industry.

Has your attitude towards sustainability changed as a result of Covid-19?

Covid-19 has demonstrated more than anything else, that our actions, even if they appear small, can have a lasting impact. We need to ensure that our impact is positive and meaningful.

Prior to this year, we had already been moving towards further imbedding a sustainable mindset into our culture, viewing it as a lasting priority. As a long standing and influential agency, we also see the opportunity to inspire others and shift perceptions.

Paul Godwin – Managing Director | Digital Innovation

Why is collaboration as an industry important to you?

As an individual agency we can only make a small difference but working together our industry body can change outcomes.

Collaboration is no doubt the desired way of working and is at the heart of what agencies do every day. There has been no better time to pull together, sharing knowledge, logging learnings, celebrating success and agreeing priorities. Together we can continue to develop long term sustainable plans to protect the future of our industry.

What does it mean for you to be an early adopter of isla?

We are proud to support this industry initiative and demonstrate our commitment to a better future.

As sustainability is fundamental to our future, this is not just some token membership for us. We genuinely believe that we should practise what we preach and with great integrity play our part in proactively making change happen, whilst sharing knowledge with others.

What does your agency currently do to support sustainability in events and how will isla help further that mission?

2Heads have been working to source and use sustainable materials and to discourage the single use of materials. We have worked with a number of clients to improve the sustainability of their projects.

A great deal of emphasis has been placed on the simplification of the experiences we create. With a firm focus on building brands and balancing physical requirements with technology-based solutions we also take the opportunity to amplify our client’s own sustainability message through the experiences we create. isla will assist in this mission by allowing us to share ideas, resources and the message across our clients and our industry as a whole.

What do you feel will be the key success measures of success for isla in the first year?

An improved awareness of the issue and the recognition of the industries resolve to move to a sustainable future will be the first year’s measure of success.

Raising awareness will inevitably lead to increased membership and may ultimately lead to the engagement of the broader events supply chain. Industry wide surveying will not only create the baseline for future measurement but will pose the question to those who are not yet members of isla – am I doing enough, and how I become part of the change.

Paul Godwin – Managing Director | Digital Innovation

What are you most excited about for isla?

We are excited about the chance to work together with like-minded agencies to encourage wider change across the industry worldwide.

Open collaboration is a welcome change and there is nothing more important than our planet, our lives and our industry. Mindfulness comes from a collective of great minds and not just the opinion of one or a few. isla will provide all of us with the resources to both achieve and measure success.
